English 7th-12th Romeo and Lacey groups

Romeo and Lacey group:

These groups received a writing prompt today and they started working on it in class.  It will be due tomorrow, even though our class may not meet because of the field trip.  Their prompt is:  “What if we all walked on our hands and not on our feet?  How would that change the way we live or lives.  Be creative!”  They are to write 2 paragraphs with 5 sentences in each.  This is an easy version of a cause and effect essay that I am hoping the kids can enjoy working on.  The assignment is worth 30 points (10 points for following the topic and 10 points for each paragraph, as long as each one has a minimum of 5 sentences). This is to be done in their composition notebook.

English 7th-12th BOOK REPORT

November 11th is the next Book Report date.  I have had a reminder on my board and have spoken with the students several times about it.  They also have the dates written in their planners.  The genre for this Book Report is Non-Fiction (autobiographies, biographies, historical narratives, etc.).  If your child does not have a book yet, please encourage them to check out the library we have at school or perhaps try the public library.  They need to bring the book to class on November 11th, or they will lose 10 points right away.  If they are using an electronic device, they need to turn it in to me or Mr. Baldwin at the beginning of the school day and can retrieve it before they have English.  The Book Reports are written in class only!  If you are helping your child with an outline, that is great, but please only send that in with them on Book Report day.  I am providing one class day where they can bring in their books and have extra time to get the reading done.  This date will be Thursday November 6th!

English 7th-12th

Romeo, Lacey, Cagney, and Cookie groups:

We are focusing on Parts of Speech and sentence structure.  Most of the work is classwork, so the students have not had much homework lately.  I want to make sure they are understanding what we are going over in class by providing more instruction with practice worksheets.  Please encourage your child to review the notes they have in their composition notebook regarding the Parts of Speech, because many of them are struggling with the differences between nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.

Cookie HW:  Write 5 sentences focusing on using conjunctions.  This needs to be in their composition notebook!  We                   have worked on nouns, adjectives, and adverbs already, so if they are incorporating those parts of speech in their                         sentences, they need to make sure they are doing it appropriately.

Lacey HW:  Write 3 sentences focusing on using conjunctions.  This needs to be in their composition notebook!  We                     have worked on nouns, adjectives, and adverbs already, so if they are incorporating those parts of speech in their                         sentences, they need to make sure they are doing it appropriately.

Annabel and Geuliette Groups:

We are currently working on essay writing in both classes.  I am trying unconventional ways to make the writing assignments more interesting while still focusing on appropriate sentence structure.

Annabel HW:  The Annabel’s were to finish their outline for homework last night, so they would be prepared to start                 writing their essay in class today.  If they do not complete their essay in class, then they must complete it for                             homework.  The essay is due tomorrow!  Each student will be responsible for reading their essay aloud.

Geuliette HW:  The Geuliette’s needed to complete their outline in class today for the full amount of points, and start               writing their essay in class.  Whatever they did not finish will need to be completed for homework.  Their essays are                 due tomorrow and they will be required to read their essays aloud.
